I just started cycling my tank today and when I added the ammonia I put in a little bit more than 1/4 tsp. When I took the reading it was around 6-7. Is this too much? What happens if I put to much in?
Min, I'm pretty sure when doing a fishless cycle you don't do water changes but for fish in cycle you do.
Ah! LOL Im clueless when it comes to fishless just figured you would still have to control the ammonina. It does make sense though since the water change is to keep the fish from stressing through the cycle . Duh :P
Also, there are a bunch of tiny bubbles gathering around the edges of my tank now after the addition of ammonia. I know for a fact that there is no surfactants or detergents in it so what could this be? Or is it normal? (this is my first real fish tank)
My guess would be trapped gases in your water. This happens when water is compressed, like in the pipes in your home. If that's what it is, the ammonia you added helped to release it to the surface. Did you agitate the water before adding it to the aquarium?
