After a REALLY quick read, I think Amquel+ is recommended because it detoxifies ammonia. NovAqua+ doesn't. It doesn't about everything else though. That's directly off the manufacturer's page on NovAqua+, and I didn't read AmQuel+ 's page.

My advice to anyone is to avoid treating your aquarium like a chemistry experiment. The fewer chemicals you can add to you fish's home, the better. Dechlorinate the water, and allow your aquarium to cycle as nature intended.

If there's a level of ammonia in the water at anything like a dangerous level, then it means that cycling hasn't fully occurred or you aren't doing water changes frequently enough. I'm a freak with water changes...my larger aquaria get 20% every other day, and anything less than 5 gallons is going to get a 50% change EVERY day!

In my experience, frequent water changes are the best path to happy & healthy fish, and we all know that you need to dechlorinate your tap water. Other than that, I'll leave the chemistry experiments to the scientists. Manufacturer's of various products are going to try to scare you into using more and more of their products...of course they are! That's how they make money!

+1 on all that. Agreed!

Also, I'm not sure on this, but for the conditioners that detoxify ammonia, do they all do other various things as well? I know Seachem Prime detoxifies, and does other things (removes heavy metals/chloramines, etc etc). Is there a conditioner that SOLELY detoxifies ammonia and removes chlorine?
