OMG, I want this fish !!

O.K so yesterday on my fishing shopping spree I came across a stunning female betta. Now I can't stop thinking about her. I am having a male no one will be able to change my mind about that but I really really really really really really really really want this female too. I don't know what to do =( I cant buy another heated tank because I have nowhere to put it and wouldnt like a small one just for her.

I know males and females cant go together but could they maybe?

Grrrr why can't they just get along lol.

I am sooooooo addicted to these little blighters and aint even got one yet lol

never say never...different fish will react differently. However, without a separate aquarium for you to "evacuate" her to, I don't know if experimenting with the arrangement is a good idea.

NO!! Females cannot be with males except for breeding purposes! Do not even try, it will result in a horrible injury or death.

How bit is your tank? You could possibly divide it and put one on each side.

I had my little Ruby in with Sapphire for a long time. He chased her a little bit, but once he got used to her they were fine.

I'm sure I've seen betta tanks that go inside the main tank. Is this cruel?

That's not entirely true. I've housed males with females in aquariums lots of times. Heck, I've even housed multiple males with about 12 females in a 40G long! I've kept 1:2 in a 5G, though it was only a temporary arrangement. And I've had 1:4 in a 10G with no difficulties whatsoever. In an extremely well-planted aquarium, you'd be surprised what "rules" could possibly be broken!

It's only cruel if it prevents them from reaching the surface of the water.

I know it is possible to house a male and female together, but it is not wise. And I believe it is the view of this forum that males and females should not be housed together except for breeding purposes.

dramaqueen (moderator) can correct me if I am wrong. But unless you are an experienced fish keeper you should NOT attempt this unless it is a divided tank.
