Ham for short. :) My first betta. :D
I don't know what type of betta he is though... the pet shop where I bought him said he was a "dragon betta on sale," but... I don't quite believe it. Can you guys help me?
Anyway. Ham is one very picky eater. I dumped 3 betta pellets in his aquarium the first day, and he didn't even poke his face at them. =O
Then I bought flakes. He just stared.
Finally I got him some blood worms, and yeah, he devoured them. D:

Welcome!!!! Hamlet is a Crown Tail betta fish. Not a dragon. :)

It is completely normal for a betta not to eat for a few days after you first get them. I had two boys that went almost 2 weeks without eating, so they can go for quite a long time!

Hey doggyhog, thanks! I knew he looked more like a Crown Tail. :D
I did read that bettas need to get used to their tanks before they eat properly, but I was kind of worried. So they'd last two weeks then? But he's eating blood worms now.. Can I still get him to eat the pellets and flakes? They're such a waste of money if he won't even look at them. :[

or maybe... maybe not. I could give them to my friend who has a betta. :) lol

Congratulations on your new betta! He's very pretty. As far as his diet goes, they can definitely take a while to really get used to new foods and can be quite picky. I know many of us offer bloodworms mainly as a treat instead of a constant food, so don't give up with the pellets just yet. Keep offering them and see if he changes his mind. Although, if he keeps refusing them a different brand might work.

Be sure to keep us updated. I'd love to know how he settles in.

@TigerLily: I tried to feed him a pellet and a flake earlier this morning, and (surprise surprise) he ate them both! woot! When I tried to give him pellets later on in the afternoon he didn't eat them though..
OH! And he made his first bubble nest yesterday! And I, ever the stupid owner, changed the water without taking a picture at all. :[ He's very lethargic right now, though. Just floating on the surface; is that normal? I mean, he's always moving about, but now that I changed his water...?
Bloodworms as treats? How exactly does that work? When does a betta deserve a treat?

Welcome!! He's very pretty. :) A lot of people feed their bettas bloodworms once or twice a week instead of their staple food which is either pellets or flakes. I fast my bettas once a week because it's good for their digestive systems.
