My female betta, Cali, has been energetic and healthy ever since I got her! I kept her in a gallon size bowl that I changed ever couple days. I use the usual water conditioner supplies that I have for all of my fish(some are up to 4 years old) and I used a small(like 5-8 crystal things) amount of aquarium salt to help her fins. She's always been eating, swimming, and happy, I've had her for about 2 months. Friday night I noticed she was laying at the bottom but when I went over to get a closer look, she perked right up and swam around.. so I didn't really worry. Then Saturday morning I wake up early to leave for a horse show and when I go to feed her, she's died! I'm weirded out because her belly was red. Could this have been some internal parasite out of my control? Petsmart fish always seem to have issues. Anyone else had a fish die so suddenly like this?
