So confused, whats wrong? ):

I came home from school today, and my fish is laying on his side at the bottom of his tank. I don't know what could be wrong. I changed the water before I left, did everything normal. He looks sick though, his fins look really thin, he went from a bright red to this graying color.
He's my first betta fish, and I'm not so sure what to do.

So if you could help mee, I would appreciate it. Just worried.

Hard to say. Is it possible you may have forgotten to treat the new water?

I did. Should I try a salt bath?

I might soon. I put his little hut thing back in there because I didn't have time to wash it. Hopefully he'll get better and Ill wait a little.

Have you tested the water to rule out any ammonia/nitrite problems? I know you just did a water change, but I always like to rule out the usual suspects. A little salt won't hurt.

Sure. If you don't have a testing kit, that ought to work just fine. All you need are the #'s...don't let them try to peddle "miracle drops" on you!

...and water temperature, are you sure it was warm enough when you changed it? Is it warm enough now?

It was a little bit cold, and I changed the temperature. He's by a window so I think the water is warmed up a bit.

Update, just in case: I put him in a salt bath and he seemed so much happier. He was swimming around, the complete opposite as before. But His fins are all clumped together I think and there is a big bump in the back on his fin.
