betta fin rot

I noticed my betta has fin rott his back fin looks like it was eening out noew its like partly instrips.
the Petco guy told me to use Melafix I have him in a 1.5 gallon tank I added a couple of drops then I read that it was bad for them and did a 100% water change.
Hes tail began getting worse so today I added melafix again.
I also added some no idonized sea salt is this the right thing todo.
ALso I have been doing a 1% water change everyday.
How do I dose melafix,and do i do water changes while I'm dosing him?

Melafix is one of the controversial medications but I wouldn't use it for fin rot. Were you doing salt baths? It takes some time for the fins to grow back because they're so fragile.

No I had no idonized table sea salt

I think you should get some Aquarium salt or Epsom salt instead.

I have one guy in 1.5 gallons that I'm treating for rot that was so bad they didn't know which type of betta he was at Petco. I used only two doses of Jungle Fungus Clear (1/4 tsp) and am changing the water every third day - adding some Aq. salt each time. He's looking a whole lot better but it's taken about 3 weeks now so give it some time.

Yep. I have used Jungle Fungus Clear before too, but personally think the salt is what cures them.

Update

He is doing fine now and he is now in a 10 gallon community tank.

I just used the Jungle Fungus clear and is it supposed to make the water a different color?

I know that the Jungle Fungus Eliminator does. I think the Fungus Clear does too.
