To get a male or a sorority?

So Iíve had a thought; Iím currently cycling my 7.5 gallon tank at the moment and I was planning on putting a male betta in there. However, Iíve just measured an old tank I have in the garage and itís 8.8 gallons at least (I didnít measure the height; but using 12Ē as standard then itís 8.8 gallons, if itís 13Ē then itís 9.6 gallons (Iíd have to confirm that).

The old tank doesnít have a lid (but Iíd make one Ė well it does but itís broken from years of sitting in the garage), and it doesnít have a light. I can either divide the bigger tank for 2 males (I donít particularly fancy that idea) OR I could get a sorority of females (say 5).

Iím just wondering what people would recommend (single male or sorority of females), and why?

I'd say a single male, a sorority of 5 females would probably need more than 9gallons imo, plus you never know you might just get that 1 female thats a bossy boots and in a tank that size she would make the others lives hell

Yes, you will need at least 10GALS and at least 4 males to start a sorority. If you do get a bigger tank make sure you get lots and lots of silk or real plants. I would just divide the tank.

One male, divided with 2 males or a sorority of 4 females. Either way, tons-o-plants. ^.^

I think you should just split the tank and put two males in there. I do agree to put many plants in there. Whatever you do have a fun time with it(:

If I hadn't already bought my girls for my 10 gallon I would have bought the canary yellow male at wal-mart today. He was beautiful!!

Well it ultimately depends on the size of the tank but I do fancy females; a LFS always has a tank full of females.

IF I did get a bossy female I will have a 7.4 and a 1.5 gallon tank spare so it would be ok.

I'm just running ideas at the minute :)
