Will they be happy?

It's a bit of a long story, but there's a betta I've fallen in love with at the pet store (he's a purple and white HM butterfly). The only way I can get him is if I divide my ten gallon and put two bettas in it. I've tried this before with mixed results (they were ceaselessly throwing themselves against the divider at one another).

I've just now divided the tank again and put the two boys in next to one another. It doesn't seem to be quite as violent as before, but they have spent the majority of the day flaring and "stalking" one another. This said, both are still eating and one even blew the beginnings of a bubblenest.

My biggest question is, is this a normal level of behavior, or are they stressed? I know that it will be selfish of me to get another betta unless I know that the two in the ten gallon can live next to one another and live a happy healthy existence. Thus, I am desperately resisting the temptation to get this butterfly betta until I know that my current boys are going to be content.

To my opinion , dividing the tank is a good idea. Don't woory.. your fish aren't stressed. They are perfectly normal. My fish do that all day. So everythings good. :)

I think that's fine. After a few weeks, they will get used to each other.

Make SURE that you have lots of plants against the dividers and everything. :)

My mind has been put to rest. I don't feel so terribly guilty about getting this new betta any more. Now all I need to do is cross my fingers and hope that he's still waiting there for me tomorrow. The store has already closed tonight.

At least it will give me more time to make sure that the new roomies are doing well together.

I'm going to work on rearranging the plants a little more to make sure that there are plenty between the boys.
