Question Male or female?

Hello, I just got one week ago this beautiful little and moody Betta fish that I really don't know how to classify. First I read "females have smaller fins" and this guy has indeed smaller than many of the quite flamboyant ones you have here, yet I saw some pictures of females Betta with way shorter and more discrete fins. So what could your expert eyes tell me about my little buddy? Thanks!

His tail is a little short, is there any visible damage? He may have bitten it because of stress.

Oh, thanks! Will his fins grow bigger then? He looks quite young!

Yesterday I just got that Indian almond stuff.

Nope, he is OK. No damages visible or so. He swims and rests alternately, and eats a lot. However I don't overfeed it, I already read that can create buoyancy problems

Hes back fin is a bit short, my little crowntails fins are also small. It looks like your bettas back fin has been bitten shorter. The rays are missing in a section there. They should grow back tho:D
