So I broke down and got the butterfly that I've been pining for after dividing my 10 gallon and making sure that the two boys I already have could tolerate one another.
He's so pretty... and his color absolutely baffles me. Sometimes he looks like his body has a greenish iridescence, other times it just looks pale lavender in color. His fins are dark red and fringed with white. His butterfly pattern is imperfect in places (it occasionally "bleeds" out to the edge) but it is most definitely the butterfly pattern since it is present on all of his fins. I don't think he's fully grown so I'm sort of hoping that as his fins lengthen out some more, the white edges will become more defined. He was labelled as a halfmoon, but I'm tempted to think he might be a delta tail. I think that's another thing that will become more clear as he gets bigger and his fins lengthen out.
I had to share my excitement.
I think I'm naming him Hal after Prince Hal in Shakespeare's
Henry IV.
