Arrow My first mustard gas?

So, my poor betta Pickwick finally died last night after suffering way too long with an illness I could apparently do nothing about.... :( I honestly think he had a tumor. Looking up pictures of other bettas with tumors seemed to confirm.

So my husband brought me to Petsmart today...a new location, and their bettas looked HORRIBLE. At least five were dead (and they weren't carrying many of them, I'd say 25) and one DT had swim bladder. I informed one of the employees, but not the woman in charge of the fish section, because I doubt she cared. Their cups were filthy.

But I found this beautiful boy. He's stressed and definitely needs some TLC, but I'm wondering if he might be the Mustard Gas I've been dreaming of for so long. All the way home in the car I was watching him flash these pretty oilslick colors. Forgive the quality of the photos; I tried.

No name yet:

Can't wait to see what happens when I get him in some clean, warm water and he colors up.

First though I need to temporarily house him in a 1 gallon plastic bowl I also picked up while I make sure my 2.6 gallon is disinfected with bleach. Anyone know what ratio bleach to water I should use in something that size? How many passes? And when will it be okay to add my new boy? (I'm also throwing away all the decorations that belonged to Pickwick just in case he had something I couldn't identify.)

Yeah, I'm slowly adding clean treated water to his cup, and he's already looking a bit less stressed. :)

It's like when you're a kid and you get one of those "mystery grab bags" full of toys at the store, you know, and you don't know what's in it? :D

He's a Copper "Mustard Gas" in that he's not a true MG but he does have the pattern so you can say Copper MG if you want :)

I think the bleach ratio is 11:1 (water:bleach) but you have to rinse it and let it sit for 24 hours afterwards so the bleach can evaporate out. He's gorgeous, I hope he colors up

When I cleaned out a tank I used white vinegar as alternative, but bleach is fine, I saw on youtube someone cleaning live plants with 1 cup bleach for every 19 cups water and then rinsing them with alot of PRIME and water, *apparently* the prime neutralizes bleach, so you can do that as well!!
