Most bettas sold on aquabid are around 3.5 months old. I don't really see a problem with pet stores selling them that young either. The only problem with them having young fish is that the fish's growth is stunted by lack of proper swimming space/water changes/food.

1f2f, that's exactly what I don't like - the stunted growth (and pretty much just what you said). ALthough I would never neglect one that is stunted, I simply don't like the idea of them being dwarfed simply because they were sold a bit early. I still think stores should wait just a little bit before they sell them. But that's just my two cents.

No! Never keep males and females together, unless you're planning to breed them. And you need to do tons of research before you even consider breeding...

I couldn't tell if you were joking or not.

Anyway, from my experience, bettas come in all different sizes. My CT Renard is so tiny! I'm think maybe 1.5 inches. My female Gloria is quite a hulk compared to him at nearly 3 inches. I've kept both of them for relatively the same amount of time.
