I'm a stay at home mom, and I foster children. I don't have money but my husband does mwhahaha :P Now to convince him we need a bigger tank. He has doubts I can keep up with this fishy.

I am going to attempt to put a want ad on our local swapshop...I hate seeing good used stuff go to waste.

You can always check Craigslist, Kijiji, and sites like that. Sometimes you come up with great deals for tanks! The bigger the tank, the easier it is to clean and heat.

Ya I'm in a pretty remote location, the closest city is 2.5hrs away :P I don't go that far with 3 kids under 3.

I'll probably end up buying new in a couple of days.

I think it's probably good for you to upgrade. 1/2-gallon nanoquariums are difficult to maintain. I would know! I love them, though. So much so that I just can't stop accumulating them!

I dunno, Bob sure seems happy, especially now that it's dark.

I did the same thing when I got my first betta. My boyfriend surprised me with a betta and a half gallon betta bowl and joined this forum and noticed everything I was doing wrong. I bought a 5 gallon tank with a light/ filter/ rock structure for 17$ off of craigslist, so I do recommend that (some people are willing to ship stuff). Good luck!

He can be VERY happy in his nano...it's just a matter of staying on top of his water quality and making sure to heat it.

I bought a 5 gallon and a heater...when I got home I came to realize the heater is for a 10-30 gallon so I guess I'm returning the heater.

Actually, as long as the heater has an internal thermometer and shuts on and off on it's own, you can still use it. I have a heater for up to 15 gallons in my 2.5 gallon and 3 gallon and the water is always at 78-79.
