I wouldn't add tetras. They are small enough for a betta to eat too.

Check out the free section on craigslist. There are tons of free 10g's there... *off to check it!*

I have 8 neon tetras and 6 harlequins in my 15gallon with my Betta, so far everything seems fine, it has been 1 month and the Betta doesnt seem to be bothered by the neons.

Did you say FREE 10 GALLON TANKS!?!?!?!
Okay now I'm going squirrly! Hahaha...
Oh wait. It's on Craigslist. The website is very unsafe becaues people have posted stuff on there and their house was robbed. Criminal Activity is all over that site, according to the news.

Eh, My dad is like the craigslist king, he's never gotten into trouble, he's ALWAYS buying, getting stuff off there. And I've bought a fish tank off there. Some people can be ehem.. hard to communicate with, but if you find the right person it's fine.

Since Neons are schooling fish they need to live in groups of 6 or more. They do best in a 20 gallons because they are active fish but they can be kept in a 10 gallon. They usually do fine with bettas unless you have less than 6. If they have less than 6 in their groups they will nip the fins of other fish.

Cories and zebra fish are two that I know of, but I don't know how zebras act towards bettas. Otos live pretty well with bettas and do better in groups. Otos are very delicate and picky eaters as well.
