New tank, waiting for tenant...

Went to the store yesterday, picked up a small tank. Originally I had planned on getting something I saw for $20 and yesterday I couldn't find it anymore so I got something a little more expensive, next thing you know my bill was like $160. damn! hahah Anyways, set up a 5gal in my living room next to the couch and will let my niece (4 1/2 years old) pick out a betta for it and it'll be "her fish" when she comes over.

That was the plan. :) Now I'm thinking I want to find the fish myself hahah bad uncle I know! But the crown tails and half moons look soooo beautiful.

Now I'm just waiting for the water parameters to stabilize (using Nutrafin Cycle and my test kit).

Very nice, good looking tank. Any betta will be lucky to call that his home! :)

Welcome to the forum as well.

Looks awesome, and the aquascaping is similar to how I was planning to do mine as well. May I ask what your substrate is? I can't tell if it's that Aqua-flora (or Eco-complete) or if it's black sand. Also, is that mopani wood? I've been looking everywhere for a suitable piece of wood and having great difficulty.

Your betta will be a VERY lucky fishy with that tank. Nice work!

Thanks. The substrate is a black sand from Hagen in their Geo System line. Not the cheapest, but it was the only real nice dark one I found yesterday and didn't feel like going all over town to save a few bucks (which I'd waste on gas!). Two 4.5lbs bags of that. I went with a dark one to make the colours pop a bit, and also I heard that the lighter coloured substrate "bleaches" the colour of the fish, which would explain why my golden gourami I have in my main tank isn't as sharp as when I got him. He seems slightly "discoloured" and I didn't want this with the betta. If this works, I'll change the substrate in my 33gal tank for dark stuff too.

No clue what the wood is, it's driftwood that's screwed into a piece of slate as a base.

Also, think I found a delta to put in. Was at the store and talked to one of the employees, she told me they're getting some this week so I'll go look at them. As far as I understand deltas are basically half moons, or at least look like them.
