Exclusively feed live Daphnia?

Can a betta be exclusively fed live Daphnia? I would, of course, have other food on hand in case the culture crashed, but I am thinking of this from a nutritional standpoint.

Also, I read that if they don't eat them all, they will survive in the aquarium until eaten, keeping the aquarium cleaner, but if I just dump in a whole lot of them, or try to breed them in the aquarium, will the betta eat himself to death (like I think I heard goldfish will do)?
