Mickey and Abigill

Well, the breeding tank is set up and Mickey is in it, with Abigill in a jar. While I wasnt home today Mickey started on his bubblenest, and has already covered the water under the styrofoam cup. Abigill still doesnt have any breeding stripes though. He is swimming in circles around the jar, flaring like crazy. His fins are starting to look like their ripped. So I guess other then the lack of stripes, so far so good.

Quick question, should the female get her vertical stripes while she is in the jar or once she is released? Also if she is supposed to get them in the jar before you release her, how long should it take?

My girl had vertical stripes even before I planned on breeding. They shouldn't get horizontal stripes, but she could get vertical stripes when you release her. If she doesn't, condition her again for another week or two, or until she has constant vertical stripes.

So in other words I should release her and see if she gets the stripes and otherwise take her out? I havnt released her yet, but she is in the jar in his tank, and doesnt have stripes.

You could release her, and see if she gets stripes when she is in, but I personally would wait until she has VERY noticeable stripes. It is really your call.

I let her in for a half hour or so, not much happened he tried his best to impress her, with flaring and swimming in a S motion , she pecked at the nest and lost interest, so..... back to conditioning for her I suppose! I must admit I didnt condition for a fulll 2 weeks, I was too impatient, i probaly did for about 10 days, so Ill be more patient this time. So its possible for her to get her stripes even when she isnt in her tank?
