So is anyone going to the IBC?

Just curious. If you go, you should take lots of pics and show us so we can ogle all the pretty bettas. I'd LOVE to go, but that's the weekend after AnimeNEXT so I'm going to be broke, to say the least!

It seems like such a cool community to get involved in. They have a place on their site where you can search for betta chapters in your area. Sadly, the one for New York has been inactive since December 2008. :( Just my luck!

I would kill to go but there is absolutely no way. Plus I can't be trusted not to bring back 10 more fish and I have NO room as it is. LOL

The IBC is the International Betta Congress. Its a group of betta breeders and experts from all over the world. They're the ones that hold shows and set the standards for breed, color, and form.

We should! And no, I'm not yet. >_< I heard they're having a show in Connecticut in October, so I'll have to see if I can join the IBC over the summer so I can go to it!

You don't have to be a member of the IBC to go to the shows :) I'm not a member yet (because I never have a spare $20 to join LOL) but I'm part of GBBA which is a chapter of the IBC.

The shows encourage people to come and learn about bettas as well as buy fish at the auction. You only need to be a member of the IBC if you want to show your fish.

Oh ok, well that's helpful! I would like to try and show my bettas though..Since I never know when they'll have a show so close to me again. :/

Usually the shows are held every year :) the Connecticut betta group is pretty active I believe.

Do you breed fish? I'm under the assumption that to show fish they must be ones that you've bred yourself.
