Not all tetras are fin nippers.Ive had some that wouldn't even go near a other
fishes fins.

I second getting a bigger tank w/ a heater. A 2 gal hex has a pretty small foot print. And will have more room for silks plants & a cave.

In a bowl that size I'd change the water every other day. And use a good water conditioned like Prime.

Alienbetta, it doesn't matter in this tank if they are finnippers. There is not room in a 1 gallon bowl for tetras and a betta. And since small tetras like Neons are schooling fish you'd need more than one. Not to mention tetras need filters.

So I took everyone's advice and have refrained from throwing more fish in there. Perhaps sometime I'll invest in a larger tank, but for now, this'll have to do. Today I picked up some lighter colored rocks and a small plant. He seems to enjoy taking shelter under the leaves. As for his name, I'm leaning towards Barry. He reminds me of Barry Egan from punch drunk love who's anti-social and always wears the same blue suit.

very mod, but i'd get a taller plant and a heater as well at least..and make sure to keep up with the water changes (I'd say 100% every other day, make sure the temp is the same as his water in the changing cup is so you don't shock him) and water conditioner to remove chlorine from tap water if you don't already know that.
I'm new here too and learned all this here so just poke around :)! And enjoy Barry!

Bettaman900,
not ALL neon tetras are fine. My friend used to keep a little school in her betta's tank (20 gallon) and they ripped his fins to shreds, poor fish.
Either way, I wouldn't take the risk of putting neon tetras in with your betta in a bigger tank.
