My good-for-nothing neighbors recently got evicted and left behind a betta fish in a tank, outside, on their lawn. In blazing Texas heat.
My mom threw the water out (not realizing there was a fish), saw the fish just in time, and immediately ran inside and added water again.
The water is cool - not as hot as water standing outside in record heat for a few days.
Fish is lackluster in color and motion.
What should we do? Fish does seem to be breathing (moving gills) and moving - seems responsive.
Do we try and get some mosquito larvae from outside and feed it, or should we not introduce food into his stressed environment?
ANY advice will be welcome - we've never had a betta, but we've also never turned our back on an animal in need. Please respond ASAP.
Thanks everyone, in advance,
Melissa (unexpected betta)
