Divided 5 gallon & cycling?

I was just given a 5 gallon glass tank and would like to divide it in half. would I be able to cycle this tank? I know anything less than 2.5 gallons is next to impossible, but what about 2 bettas in a 5 gallon? It would be more surface area thank a 2.5 and it would be understocked. What do you think??

My girlfriend has 2 males divided in a 5 gal. It seems to work pretty well. Heres a link to what I did for her. http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/d...on-hood-42443/
It wasnt too hard to make either. Its funny cause one of her bettas is always flaring at the other one and getting all heated when he sees him and the other one couldnt care less. He'll go right up to the plexiglass divider and just watch the other one flaring at him.

Theres no filter so she does water changes. It stays pretty clean because theres not alot of light on it so theres no problems with algae yet. She also makes sure not to overfeed them.

The plexiglass was an 18 by 24 and was .093 inches thick. It costed about $10 including tax. I also used GE Silicon 1, the clear type. You have to use Silicon 1 and not Silicon 2 because its safe for the fish. It costed around $4 dollars and I already had a silicon gun.

Hi Zeetrain,

Can you post your pics here please? The website you posted will not allow me to view them without membership. Thanks.

Also, where did you purchase the plexiglass?

I got the plexiglass and the silicon from home depot.
The site I posted the pictures on is the mother site to this one. You use the same login on that site as the one you have for this one. You should check it out.
