Question New to Cycling

I currently have a 10 gal tank that house 4 female Betta's. I am going to get filters for all my tanks, but I am going to start off with the largest. Whats a good type of filter (if there is a difference) to get. I have a petsmart, pet supplies plus, petco, and walmart around here. Not looking for something super expensive but I don't want a piece of trash either.

Also, are there any do's and don'ts with filters? Any input will help.

for bettas nothing too powerful, they dont like a strong current. Small hobs (hang on back) are ideal :) Also a heater for betta's is a big plus otherwise their life span is really cut short,
