I don't support that breeder anyways. They're one of the "big ears" breeders. I've seen other fish go for $1000 but they were pairs and I don't know if they were actually bought or not.

Giants (btw is not a king, its a giant) usually start out high, its not uncommon to see giants start out at $100 for quality fish.

As far as taking him out of the water. Many breeders do this. The ones that do are very experienced and know how to anesthetize fish. If a fish gets tail damage, frequently breeders will trim up their tails to ensure even regrowth. Taking a picture of it next to a ruler is basically the only way to show its truly a giant.

The fish aren't even all that nice looking. Imagine if the red eye was just normal "red eye from the camera" haha.

Red eyes are a sign of Albinism. I've never heard of it in a colored fish but it would stand to reason that there could be some bad genetics behind those eyes that could lead to other problems, especially in breeding.

Absolutely NO ONE is going to buy a fish that has a starting price of one thousand dollars. It's ridiculous. However, he might have meant it to be $100 and accidentally added another zero. It's possible.

And I don't think it really has red eyes, because it doesn't in all the pictures. It's probably the camera, or it could be photoshopped. Its finnage isn't even all that nice!

I am personally fine with taking them out of water to measure them. Like someone said, it's like netting them. Since they can breath out of water it's not like any other fish and they won't die as long as they stay moist. I found one at my LPS that had jumped out of the tiny hole in the top of its cup and was still alive. It hadn't done it recently because it was kind of sticky, almost dried out. I put it back in the empty cup.
