Reusable?

I had 2 bettas. 1 died today. The other, a female, is living in a temporary tank until I could get a new one. it is a large tank/bowl. Very roomy for a smalll female.

I thought that I could reuse the dead betta's tank if I clean everything out and get new water. But I was reading a little into pop eye, the disease that my betta died of, and it could be a sign of a deadly, but rare, disease. Tuberculosis. if John, the deceased, did have tuberculosis, I can't reuse the tank.

1- could I reuse the 1.5 gallon tank for my female?
2- did John have tuberculosis or just popeye?
3- is that bit about tuberculosis and not being able to reuse the tank true?

Popeye is usually a symptom of a bacterial infection related to poor water quality, since you just got John he most likely was already sick from the poor conditions at the pet store.
The new tank still needs to be cleaned well with warm water and even using a very small amount of diluted bleach can't hurt, just rinse well and use a dechlorinator.

If I do use the diluted bleach, about how much should I put in a 1.5 gallon tank?

I would use about a half cap full to 1g of water, fill the tank and let the filter run for a few min too, rinse several times and then fill with fresh water and double amount of dechlorantor and let it run for at least 10 min, rinse again and fill with declorinated fresh water, as long as it does not smell like bleach it is safe to use.

you can also wipe it down with a lemon or vinegar after you bleach it

Good luck with your female! I bet she'll love the 1.5 gallon! =] Also, If you can't think of a good place to put your next betta and you're ok with every day or every other day 100% changes then I recommend asking your family, friends family, or just look around your house for a large hurricane/tornado vase or get a 1 gallon pickle/pepper jar. =] They're also selling these cool 1 gallon decorative jars with airtight lids at walmart for $8-$12. =] I'll send you a pic of them when I go back so you can find them more easily. =]
