Question about plants.

Java Ferns - Should I lay fish gravel down and plant them in the gravel?

Currently they're attached to one of my silk plants I laid down on it's side on the bottom of the tank. Some are floating at the bottom of the tank to mid range of the tank.

You don't want to plant the Java fern rhizome in the substrate, it is best to attach it to something in the tank, driftwood works well and it will attach itself to most anything. The root will find their way into the substrate sometimes too but the rhizome needs to be above the substrate to keep it from rotting.
