I thought about getting one since they float, and tying it to a rock under the sand so it is suspended in the middle of the tank?

I got one for George and he loves it. The paint flakes off a bit but I don't think it affected the water.

I got one about two weeks ago, about $10 with shipping included. It took Fishbert a day or two to get used to it. He now sleeps in it and builds his bubble nest between it and the tank wall. He isn't too happy when the log moves though. It's kept stable when the aquarium lid is on, because the log is then sandwiched between it and the water.

I thought about using aquarium sealant to attach it to the wall of the tank but decided against it because I didn't want Fishbert to be hiding in it when I do a water change and end up above water level. =o

I like Phoxley's idea of using a string to tie it to a rock.... not to suspend it in the middle of the tank but because that would provide stability when the lid is off.

I saw Java Moss balls tied to string and suspended in some tetra's tanks at Petco, was very unique looking.

I might try the logs in my tank, maybe it will accent the bogwood piece I have.

I have one for Morgan and he loves it. I haven't had any problem with paint coming off so far.
