Feeding once a day.

I usually feed my fish twice a day, 2 pellets each. Would it be ok to feed once a day, 4 pellets each? I don't want to risk constipation problems but I've been so busy it would be more convenient to feed once a day.

I feed once a day and often accidently drop a few more than I mean to in the tank. My fish don't seem to be lacking in poop with each tank cleaning (no constipation from what I see) I do and never seem bloated. I have had a bloated fish before, but that was close to 3 years ago, and only ate bloodworms and not my current fish. IMO 4 pellets shouldn't hurt all at once. (i just should be more careful at how many I drop in I guess)

Your lucky you have pellets, flakes are much more of a hasel. I need to make sure Akrin doesent get to much or to little, and with Akrins piggy personality. its almost imposible to see if I fed to much or little. He always wants more and gives me a sad fce but when I dont get him any more he gets angery and flares! he is SUCH a pig

Flakes are generally not a good way to feed bettas. They generally offer poor nutrition and can cause bloating and constipation.

I suggest switching to a high quality pellet food, I use OmegaOne betta buffet pellets, but Atison's Betta pellets, Ken's Betta Crumbles, and New Life Spectrum are also good brands. Always soak the pellets or flakes in a little tank water before giving them to your betta. Fish bodies were not made to eat bready air-filled foods, and not soaking the pellets can result in bloating--soaking the food is an easy preventative measure.

3-4 pellets once a day should be fine. It is a good idea to vary your fish's diet with other brands of prepared food or with thawed frozen foods a few times a week because no single pellet can provide your fish with complete nutrition.

Same here, once per day, usually 3-4 pellets each. They're all happy and healthy (: And then there's Skittles... who will pig out of flakes, but refuses pellets... it's very hard to keep him happy =/

I also feed once a day for 6 days & fast them on Sunday. Seems to work.

Heck, my daughter-in-law had a Wal-Mart betta that she only fed every other day and she kept him alive for over a YEAR!!! He was very cute, active & seemed very happy & healthy in his 4 gal. heated, filtered tank that "Grandma" gave him - LOL!!! Not to mention the weekly tank cleanings that "Grandma" taught "Mom" he needed. :)

ok, thanks, guys. I'll start feeding them once a day until things calm down, if they ever do.
