Anybody use Frogbit?

I have seen pictures of Frogbit in betta tanks with the plant floating on top & the roots hanging down - they seem to get pretty long. I think it is just the COOLEST looking set-up & people on other forums have said their bettas have a blast swimming between the roots.

Anybody here have any? I have hard water & keep my tanks pretty warm (80 F) & was wondering if the Frogbit would do well in those conditions??

I use both duckweed and water lettuce in all my tanks and I have really hard water and it does fine. Frogbit is like duckweed and they are both pretty hardy floating plants and has to be kept under control, it can even become a pest in some peoples opinion, but I like it and keep it...I just have to remove and toss a lot of it on a regular basis or it would cover my tanks every 4-5 days so it doesn't shade out my other plants...thats how fast it can grow when it is happy. It is great for using extra nutrient in the tank for some algae control and ammonia/nitrate.

would this be a good choice for my small critter keepers? I would like to get some plants and I thought floating would be good as I make 100% water changes and wouldn't have to plant them. Also where can I get these plants? I haven't seen any at my LFS.

You can order them on line, but a good place is finding a local aquarium club and places that sell pond supplies and goldfish, Koi also will have these floater, goldfish love to eat this stuff.
Hornwort is also a good floater, I don't like it myself and it tend to drop its needles when not happy and can have hair algae problems too.

I already have some duckweed, but the roots don't grow like the frongbit - gonna try the frogbit! :)
