Unknowingly lost two girls whilst bringing home #5 & 6...

So, I was at the store getting Flea spray & I wandered over to the Betta section, they had some pretty nice ones, but I wanted my Sorority to be at 6, so I got two new girls.

Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized Lady was floating dead!!!
An hour later, I found Emmie dead, gut eaten hollow out.

No signs of how they died, nothing, just gone.

I added the new girls who were flaring at each other at the store, now at my girls in their cups. Of course, Mitzy & Rubie ganged up together(first time) to chase off the new chicks.

They are doing ok now, newbies hiding, but unharmed. Original chicks pigging out on dinner.

Pics tomorrow. I wish I knew what happened to the others, makes no sense...

That is what happened to Ami, I found her dead and gut eaten out.

aww r.i.p emmie and lady they will be missed are there only four now? there swimming with god now and other betta's they will be missed

The other girls may have bullied Lady and Emmie. It's not that uncommon. Did you see any signs of nipping, chasing or other aggression in the past few days?

No, Lady & Mitzy were the top girls, then Emmie and then Rubie. Mitzy was the most aggressive & impacient, Lady the passive one. Now, the last in the hierarchy, Rubie is on friendly grounds with Mitzy. I think Lady died of internal issues that did not show until her death. She had very dark internal organs, usually they were just as pale as she was. No other issues. Emmie must of died first, that's why she was eaten, while the other was left alone. No other outward signs, no bites, etc.


Yes, there are now still 4 Betta. I had 4 & was bringing home 2 new girls, to make 6. But two passed away, making it 4 again...


Also, these girls were together for 3 months, maybe longer, so their positions were settled and each knew where they belonged. No new aggression, if anything, Mitzy was more tolerant recently.
