Is It Normal For Bettas To Hide A Lot?

Hi! I was wondering if it's normal for bettas to hide a lot. When I first got my guy he would swim around the tank a lot. But today he's been hanging out back behind his plants a lot.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him physically. No spots, no bad fins.

And occasionally he does swim around, and when he does he still keeps his fins stretched out, not clenched to his body or anything. And when I fed him this morning he still ate like a pig.

I did a partial water change today, but he's been hiding since before that. There's no other fish in the tank with him. And there's a heater and it's currently at 80 degrees.

Edit: I figured out what was wrong, hehe. I had a black background at the back and he was seeing himself in it's reflection and getting mad. But now that I took it away, he has nothing to get mad at so he's not hiding back there anymore. Haha!

Good to hear that you found the cause--when normally bold fish start hiding it can be a sign that something is seriously wrong medically. Usually we don't figure out that our fish are sick until they are very sick, because it is instinctual for them to hide their condition because the strong will always be inclined to pick off the weak. I would watch him extra closely--glad you think he's allright, though.
