Question Anyone Have Trouble With Betta Biting?

My Betta bites me when I go to put his pellets or worms in his bowl.
He leaps out of the water and bites my finger! Why does he do this?
Is he just so excited to eat and thinks my finger is part of the menu or does he not see that well? Well it scares me and I end up throwing the pellets in from way up high and sometimes I miss the bowl.

I have 3 bettas and only one leaps up out of the water when I put my hand near the bowl!

And yes now they are getting worms besides their pellets!

Two of mine do that too. My King, Kilo, jumps way up out of the water and sometimes gets my finger. Tango bites me all the time when my hand's in his tank. It really doesn't hurt. You get used to it after a while. Just grit your teeth and endure. I'll admit to girly screaming the first couple of times. :)

One of my females always nibbles on me when I get to close during feeding or during the tank maintenance. Guess it is just what some of them do. He is probably protecting his territory and very exited about the food...
Make sure he can't leap out of the bowl though!!!

LOL! Vaygirl! That's funny and that's me. Screaming and running away! I guess I saw pictures of bettas what they can do to each other when fighting and I invisioned my finger being torn to shreds! :)
Thank you Vay and Cherish!

They associate the finger with food, eventually. It's only natural, if you saw a finger every time you were fed, you would think finger=food source, too--and you might even want to bite it. :) I always try to put the pellets in a few inches away from the betta so that they pick the pellets off of the surface, though.

Hehe, girly screaming is also natural.

They must wonder why sometimes no food comes from the finger. That's probably why Tango persists in biting me when I'm doing anything in his tank. Like he think's I'm a pellet dispenser or something. Or he's just onery. :)

Haha! Pellet dispenser!
That makes sense that maybe the darn pellet dispenser is broken so he bites it a few times to see if any will fall out! LOL!
Gosh I guess we just need to accept the fact that that's all we are to these guys. :)
