Exclamation What do I do?!?

Edmund, my poor little tailbiter, got sucked up in the siphon while I was doing water changes. I feel so guilty; I look away for one second and the next thing I know he's jammed in the tube. I tried my best to get him out, but he was jamed like a cork in a bottle. By this point I'm freaking out, screaming for help and trying to keep him underwater so he can breathe; my dad finally managed to pry him out. It's a miracle my sweet little guy is still alive, but his poor fins were all torn up. I've been doing extra water changes to try to get him to stop tailbiting like Oldfishlady said, but I'm still afraid that he might die. Should I salt him? How much? I added some when he first moved in; that was about three months ago. I'm afraid of poisoning him, though. Is it safe to add more? My poor little survivor. Thanks in advance for help.

In the water changes, are you adding Aquarium salt each time? Is he swimming normal?

I haven't put any AS in the water since that time three months ago. He seems to be swimming just fine, only he's missing big chunks of his fins.
