Changed behavior and stopped eating

In the last few days my male betta Sphinx started to change. One thing that's different now is that if anybody goes up to his tank he starts spazzing out and hides behind his filter. And today after a WC he got stress stripes and stopped eating. He is in a 1.5 gallon filtered tank. There was a heater but I took it out a couple of weeks ago because the room temperature has gotten up to 85 during the summer.Does anybody have any suggestions on what's wrong with him?

Water changes are 2-3 a week. One 50% two 100%.I'm not entirely sure about the temperature but like I said the room temperature gets to 85 in the afternoon. And in the morning and night the room temperature is about 78-80.

How long have you had him and where did you get him?

Sounds like you give correct care, one thing you might try since you have a filter is making just 50% twice weekly water changes and maybe add some more items in the tank to help make him feel more secure and if the tank is in a high traffic area move it to a low traffic area.
I would also get a thermometer and check the water temp and make sure it is not temp swing.

Thank you.
Well today he ate a little, and he doesn't have stress stripes anymore, but he is still hiding behind the filter. So I'm going to get him a plant or cave like you suggested and maybe that will help.
