Sorority Quantity Question

I am starting a sorority. My aquarium is currently cycling. I was originally going to do a 10 gallon with 6 females. Instead, I ended up with a 14 gallon.

My question: Do I still do 6 and let them have the extra room? Or do I do 8 to spread out the aggression even more?

Thanks!

I would probably only do 6 females in a 14 gallon tank. Typically you allow 1 gallon per inch of fish. Betta fish on average are about 2 inches long. Therefore, you would need 2 gallons per betta. You could get away with seven bettas in a 14 gallon, but by only adding 6 you give them a little extra room and are not overcrowding them. :)

Hope this helps!!!

I agree 100%. When I researched the subject before setting up my 20 gal. "Princess" tank, I read 2 gals. per girl. I have 9 in mine with plenty of rocks, caves & plants (real & silk). It has worked out GREAT so far.

I would stick with the 6, aslong as they have lots of caves, plants and hidey holes they will be fine. I have four and they get along great, they shoal most of the time which is bizarre lol
