in desperate need of help

i just got a new betta and i am feeding it bloodworms oncea day, am i doing someting wrong?

P.S.- the picture is what he looks like. he is a halfmoon betta splenden

Congrats on you new fish! He's gorgeous!
Well, feeding him once a day is ok, it's better to less quantity and 2 or 3 times a day but if your schedule doesn't allow it, that's fine.
Are you feeding freeze dried or fresh? If you're feeding freeze dried, you should add something else to his diet as Freeze dried worms have very little nutrition.
What size tank do you have him in? Do you have a heater? What's your water temp? How are you treating the water? What is your water change schedule?

i do have a heater but where i live is about 90-100 degree's in temp. so my mom says not to put it in until winter. i feed him freeze dried, and m tank is 1 gallon, and don't worry i have a whisper 3i intenal filter

If there's a Petco around, I recommend that you buy some New Life Spectrum Betta Formula pellets and feed him two pellets in the morning and two in the evening six days a week, then don't feed him anything on the seventh day.

Sorry to say, but yeah you're doing something wrong....I made the same mistake with my first betta. A diet consisting only of bloodworms will lead to dropsy which pretty much means death for a betta.

I swear I'm hearing from everybody that Petco has good bettas!! The sad thing is, there isn't one near my house. By the way, your betta is gorgeous!

I think you should consider getting a bigger tank in the future. With a bowl this size whether it is filtered or not, you will need to change 100% of the water every other day, or at least every two days in order to keep the harmful ammonia from building up and causing him great harm. It would help you to get a master liquid test kit so that you know from a simple test whether the water needs to be changed--using this kit you can work out a water changing routine, every person with fish should have one of these. Putting a bit of java moss in the tank will also help absorb some of the fish's waste.

Larger tanks are a lot less maintenance, and they can be more safely heated. Bettas in such small tanks often develop neurotic behaviors due to lack of environmental enrichment and many become obese which is one of the leading causes of death for bettas. I suggest you read around for awhile and start saving your money for a better setup, your betta will be so much healthier and more beautiful in a proper tank.
