Question mug in tank

I'm going to use a mug in my tank for a hide. I picked one up from the dollar store, but I was wondering if there was anything I needed to do with it other than rinse it before I put it into the tank.

I would run a vinegar test on it for at least a week. Soak a part of the mug in vinegar. If the part that was soaked looks altered from the unsoaked part, the ceramic mug isn't aquarium-safe.

In the meantime, a plastic SOLO cup anchored down with a rock/gravel could be a hidey hole.

If it's glazed I wouldn't worry too much about it. Anything food safe is generally fish safe. =]
That's just my opinion though. =]

Oops..I guess they're not really sold outside of the U.S. They're just disposable (and reusable) plastic cups:

That has been my experience also. I use mugs in some of my tanks without any problems.
