my family and I are taking a vacation in about 2 weeks, so we'll have a petsitter coming to the house to take care of the pets. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that he might overfeed my Betta. Does anyone have a good recommendation for an automatic feeding system that isn't extremely expensive?
How is your betta fed? Certainly if you gave the pet sitter specific instructions (i.e. feed this on this day but only this many pellets/flakes/worms) then I don't see it as an issue. I wouldn't know of any good vacation feeders though, sorry. :(
I wouldn't really do the auto feeder thing if I were you, I would simply pre-bag small portions of food and label them by day. It's pretty hard for the sitter to mess up when pre-portioned food that's been labeled. It would be a good idea to portion out less food than usual in case the sitter wants to sneak in a treat or two--besides, the most important thing is water quality. Bettas can go a very long time without eating--the sitter will be doing water changes for you too, right?
I agree with the above posts, forget about the automatic feeders.Use premade daily food piles (either bagged/in sectioned boxes or just seperate piles on a plate. If your pet sitter isnt a fish keeper maybe you could do a couple of water changes with them there so they could watch & learn.
