Finn tore a fin!! :(

Finn tore his fin on a plant (which i removed already). Are there any precautions i need to take?
He lives in a 5G filtered tank with the temp maintained at 78-80 degrees. I do a 50% WC once weekly. (Just in case you need to know)

I would keep him in my 1/2 gallon hospital tank and do 100% water changes with salt daily for 10 days.

When I got my betta fish from petsmart, I thought I saw a very tiny hole in his tail, but otherwise he looked great so I got him because he was very interested in me and his surroundings. I thought it may have been the shape of his tale but I have looked very closely at him since then and he does have it. I read that it should heal up on it's own if he's in a better place to live than the cup they come in, but aquarium salt is supposed to help too. Though I'm not sure if you should put the aquarium salt in if you have other fish in the tank as well and depending on how bad it is, you might need to use aquarium salt instead of letting himself heal. Hopefully someone else can help you with that....I hope I helped some! :)
I have a plastic plant in my tank too but i'm planning to switch it out if anything goes wrong, i'll probably switch it out anyway.
But I hope your betta gets better soon.

Update: Finn has more tares in his fins!! I took out a "potential" plant that might of done this...Gah :( I hope nothing will come out of this.

And @Sarada...I dont have a1/2G QT. Can't I just add salt to his 5G and do 50% WC daily?

I don't know, never tried it...it's just easier to keep the water cleaner in a smaller container.

Update: Did a 100% water change and added aquarium salt. Finn seems to be liking it and is swimming around more. :) I'm sure he'll heal fin. I'll post if anything goes wrong. I followed vilmarisv on what they did when their fish tore a fin and apparently it's been working fine for everyone else.
