Love this Fish!!

Ive had guppie fish when I was younger, but I have to say, now I'm addicted to bettas!

And I don't understand the whole "vail tails are mutts" thing, will someone please explain? Thanks!

He's very pretty! And I don't think veiltails are considered "mutts", per se, but they're the most common of bettas and usually considered the less desired when compared to HMs or DBTs. A "mutt" betta would really be considered one with mish-mashed colors that don't flow very well, or sloppy fins that are the result of two different betta types being bred together (Say, a CT and a VT).

Like CR said its not that VTs are bad, more that they are over-bred and over produced. They are way common and are bred willy nilly without anybody stopping to say "what makes a good VT?". Pretty much any fish you get from a pet store would be considered a "mutt" because you don't know the lineage of it. Also bad mixes of both different tail types or bad color mixes (red/blue being the most common) can also be termed "mutts".

Wow I love his colors! VT's are my favorite bettas...I prefer them to HM's and crownies.

My favorite guy is a VT too. Until recently, I only ever had VTs. Still have a softspot for them.
