OMG, NEVER put fish with Cichlids...ok, so I'm over-reacting but Oscars and Cichlids will eat other fish which is why they can only usually be put with others of their kind. And yes, he was devoured, they'll eat just about anything (including other fish). Oscars and Cichlids unless put with members of their same kind will eat everything in a tank. Probably the biggest reason why I've never owned nor plan to own them because they get really big and you can't really have other fish. I'm not a big fan of them at all. Pretty colors yes but quite deadly for a community tank.

I keep cichlids (one group in a 75 gal. tank & another group in a 50 gal. tank) and, yes, they are NOT "community" tank fish per se.

It should be noted, however, that ANY fish - bettas included - will eat any other fish they can fit in their mouths!!!

Yes it it. I just sometimes get a little tired of people acting like cichlids are the devil with fins. Ok, ok - I admit, they ARE a tad more aggressive than your average community fish & they probably aren't for everybody, but I sure love mine!
