Fin Rot

Clark Gable has been in QT for over a week with 100% daily water changes and 1/4 teaspoon of AQ salt, what I thought was improvement is quickly becoming a worry. I have noticed that some of his tail is growing back and as I watch him carefully everyday I noticed 2 days ago a pink circle as he is a marble I didn't think anything of it but now his fin has split in half so I am assuming the pink circle was blood. I don't know whether to continue with the AQ salt or go and buy some medication from the LFS, I really was hoping it wasn't fin rot but looks that way, I would take a picture but as he is cellophane the camera doesn't pic up on his tail very well.

Can you get your hands on any Catappa leaves(indian almond leaves)? After ten days of salt..take a break.

Not that I am one to give advice, I'm in the same boat. I have had Moe is isolation for a day now, no salt, just some water infused with the almond leaves. I haven't seen improvement yet obviously but he's blowing nests.

No we don't have it in the stores over here, I've even asked and they looked at me stupid lol

I heard oak leaves can be used too

As for the fin rot, just keep up with the water changes and he should be fine. Is it possible he's biting his fins?

I would like to continue using the AQ salt but it just doesn't seem to working much

What makes you think that it's fin rot? What you described was a split--which could be caused by the fish ripping his fins on decor or biting and tearing the fin. It would be a very very very rare treat indeed to catch a betta in the act of fin biting. I have had profuse tail biters in the past, and I never once actually caught any in the act. They prefer to do it alone, often at night.

If it is fin rot, the edges of the fin would be crusty and gray/black. If there's no change in texture or coloration, then it is simply a tear. There is no need to medicate.

Hrmmm sounds like my little bugger is biting then because he has no discoloration.

I can't really get a great picture of him but if you look REALLY carefully you can see two "rays" I think their called and then the shorter bits
