New Member, New Betta, New Tank

Greetings, folks! First off I'd like to thank everyone for all the information posted in these forums. It really made my crash-course in Betta care easier. About a week ago my teenage daughter got a Betta (Manny) for her birthday so I set up an old 10 gallon tank for him so he didn't have to live in a bowl. His supporting cast consists of 4 Kuhli Loaches, 1 Java Loach and 3 Zebra Nerite Snails. He's been making a bubble nest under and around the floating Banana Plant leaf. Everyone seems to have settled in pretty well and after a period of adjustment Manny seems to pretty much ignore his tank-mates.

Beautiful set up! My computer must have been slow and didn't load the pics earlier.

Edit: I just noticed your terracotta pots. Bettas are notorious for trying to get through small holes that are too small for them. It is best to take a screwdriver, place it on the bottom of the pot, and tap the bottom out. It'll break up very easily, then you'll just need to sand the edges smooth. Otherwise he most likely will get stuck at some point (bettas are pretty but are not always the smartest!).

Yea my Jasper, when he was way younger, used to love squeezing into tight spots, he often came out with scratches tho, but no amount of scab's on that fishes body would make him stop doing that *lol*

Thanks for all the kind words, folks. We're shooting for the bottom of the stream look. I may add some coarse sand and I still want to fine tune the plants. Since I have a lot of xmas moss available I've decided I'm going to try to make a moss wall in the back. Oh! And I ordered a small blue LED moonlight on Ebay, so we'll see how that works.

Dramaqueen, my daughter's friend picked him out and named him and I think she did a good job. He's not as fancy as a lot of them I've seen here but I really like the color combination on him.

Kuklachica, I've seen him peering through a flowerpot hole as if it were a window. The loaches use the holes so I'd like to keep them but I think I'll just pile stones so he can't get to the holes but they still can, thanks.
