Filter too strong, help!

The tank I have has a built in under gravel filter... but I think it makes a current that is too strong for Aegir... he seems happier when I turn it off.
Could I some how put a sponge in front of it to diffuse the current? I don't know how I could do it.. should the current be pointed towards a side of the tank, or in the middle?

I have a 1 gallon with an under gravle filter, the clear tube come up 2 inches under the water line, and it is in the center of the tank. When the flow is to strong I just bend the air line so it slows the flow down. You could try bending the air line and see what happens...

There is no air line... its like a mini power head at the top of the filter that pullsthe water through the filter.
You can see it behind Aegir in this pic:

Is there away to take a sponge filter type foam, and put it where the water flow is coming out of?. So it has to go threw the sponge, and it just slows everything down.

Is there any adjustment on the power head pump you can turn down???

No, I can't turn it down, but I do have some filter sponge, I just have to figure out a way to get it to stay there.
