How long are your bettas living like this? If its not 3-5 years than there is something wrong.

Splendens are not meant to be kept together, they aren't like Cichlids who pair off.. eventually one will kill the other, or one will constantly live in fear and lead an extremely stressed life.

like i said above, they have plenty of places to hide, they leave eachother alone, i see them swimming together sometimes, but other than that its each betta to itself

Not to mention the fact that they should not be housed together, 5 gallons is not big enough to give them space to get away from each other.

Sure they seem fine now, but one day your going to wake up and one of those fish are going to be dead or seriously injured. Even in sororities fish can be together for YEARS and then all the sudden one decides that she's going to kill all the other fish.

We try to promote proper husbandry here and this is a potentially life threatening situation for these fish. Its just not in a betta's nature to live in a pair. Right now I'm sitting and watching my spawning tank like a hawk because even though these fish have seen each other for the past 24 hours its still possible that one of them will decide they don't want to breed and kill the other.. its 10 times more dangerous when the fish isn't in the breeding mood.

I have to agree with everyone else...It will cause them way too much stress...and a 5 gallon doesn't have enough space for them to hide from eachother! It's really a bad idea to house a female and male betta together..Because it will just stress them both and could cause many problems and death. They won't live nearly as long as they would seperated. They will end up killing eachother like everyone else has said.
