I have a 5.5 gallon tank with a betta...I use a desk lamp to light the tank. The lamp has a long arm with the light at the end so I position the light at the top of the center of the tank. Is this OK? How loing should I leave the light on every day?
Bettas do not particularly like high light--and if the bulb in the lamp is incandescent, it can heat the water and cause dangerous temperature fluctuations. You could swap out the bulb for a lower wattage fluorescent bulb--that would probably be ok.
