Best Way to Take Fish Pics?

My goofy boy, Cornflake-Teenybutton, is apparently always being harassed by the paparazzi. He flares and tries to attack the camera every time I try to take a picture of him. I have never used flash for fear of hurting him. I'd love to get some pictures of him so I can draw him, but I don't want to stress him out. Any tips?

Turn the room light off and leave the tank light on w/ no flash.
Use the macro button on your camera. (it's the little flower button)
Don't be worried about using your flash though, it won't hurt them.

I use flash most of the time (unless I'm trying to get a picture of the fish's actual color). I mess around with the settings and the lighting to get good pics. Sometimes using the regular setting but zooming in can give you better pics than the macro, but generally you want to use the macro setting.

Mostly you just have to have a lot of patience. I can take 40 pictures of the same fish and only get 5 good ones.

I always use flash, because macro without it is ALWAYS blurry for me. It usually messes up the coloration a bit (or a lot...), but it captures movement better. Like the others say, zoom in on the fish, and capture away. Also try tilting the camera a bit to minimize the flash shine on the glass. Fiddle around a bit (: Some cameras are AWESOME fish picture takers, and some just aren't very good. Like 1f2f says, though, it'll take quite some time to get good pictures. You can take up to 100 and get maybe 3 or 4 good pictures.
