Yeah I don't think you'll be able to successfully divide a 20 long 8 ways.. you'd need something more like a 55 in order for it not to look cramped. A 20l divided 5 ways would look nice IMO and then you would only need to divide a 10 gallon 3 ways to fit the rest of the fish.

Thank you guys so much, this really helped! The 5 hex isn't used ATM, but I would like less tanks = less water changes. Since I'm going into my senior year of high school I'm going to be pretty swamped with school and college planning. I think I will go with 1fish2fish's idea with the 20L and 10 gal. Although I'm kind of bummed to be "wasting" my 29 gallon which I just bought last year, but it really doesn't fit what I need right now Any other suggestions?

I would just store the 29. That is a great size tank and you never know when you'll need it again.

Right now I have a 55 gallon tank that's never been set up that I bought because I thought I might need it in the future (plus it was only $35). Its sitting in my room at home collecting dust LOL

I have a 20 long that I am going to divide 5 ways. 8 ways would be way too many.

20 longs are 30" wide x 12" high x 12" deep.

Its up to you how many ways you want to divide. If the tank is 30 inches long that would be 5 inches of front per fish (if divided 6 ways), that wouldn't be too bad I guess.

With sororities you have to take more into account than just the general guideline. Stocking is very complicated and 2 gal per fish is a VERY generalized rule. A sorority is better overstocked than under. That is why sororities must ALWAYS be cycled and you must keep a head on your water changes.

Okay we'll see on how many ways divided, either 5 or 6. I'm so excited to set it up!! Thanks again for your help. Oh and I already have a sorority of 5 in my 50 gallon community, so I wouldn't be doing that anyway :)
