Bettafix & Melafix

If the main active ingredient in these medications are tea tree oil then surely we could make a fake version by diluting 100% tea tree oil with water. I don't know if any of you have done this before but whilst researching about these this evening it came to me that it would save money and kind of makes sense lol

Melaleuca is usually tea tree oil. It's just another name for it.

Bettafix is just a less strong version of Melafix.

If Melafix is bad for bettas does that mean bettafix is too? I have been treated one of my boys for two weeks now...first week with salt and almond leaf...this week with bettafix as I can't get any other fish meds here...
He has fin rot. I have seen some regrowth but there is still a problem area that won't go away.

From everything I've read, it's kind of hit or miss. Some people use it all the time with no problems and some people have problems. I've used it but even with bettafix I cut the dosage down to 1/3. It's probably not even that beneficial at that point. Atisons betta spa is probably more beneficial to our guys for that kind of problem. Or straight IAL in the tank.

Ya I did IAL for ten days along with aquarium salt. Then switched to Bettafix just two days ago. I dunno, he's happy and eating but I don't like the look of his fins. He's a cellophane and where some chunks are missing it's red and there are some streaks running up his fin. Almost sounds like ammonia poisoning when I read about it but his water has been changed 100% for 14 days now.

Tail biting? my fella is cellophane and has the same as you described. I treated him for nearly 2 weeks with AQ salt and there was no progress, so I posted a pic on here and Adastra told me it looked like he was tail biting.
Do you test your water?
