He was def. tail biting at first but to me it appears that a small part of one fin turned into rot. I have been wrong before though.

Current Fin...notice the red towards the top of his back fin

The lower half was all torn to bits earlier too but it has started to grow back unlike the top half.

I believe u have a tail biter. Red area is not finrot, its blood and you should keep using salt and water changes to prevent rot.
Some fish will always be tail bites.

It went around to his bottom fin at one time too though.

Have you ever noticed parts of his fins floating around the tank?

With fin rot there will tend to be pieces of his fins over the substrate and deco, so IMO I would say he is tail biting. Make sure to keep his water clean as it may lead to fin rot. I'm hoping to pick up some melafix this week to help his fins with re-growth as nothing else seems to be working.

Have you tried IAL did you say? oak leaves also tend to work the same and are easier to get a hold of too lol

Do you have aeration in his tank when you use bettafix? If you have success with the bettafix then let me know, I am dying to get my boys fins back to normal
